The painting I called “Light from the Kotel” reflects my new approach to depicting Jerusalem, where I strive to convey a sense of holiness through light and color. In this work, I use rich blue tones that immerse the viewer in a special atmosphere, as if the evening sky over the ancient city has just been illuminated by the soft light of the passing day.
When I created this picture, I wanted to convey the feeling of silence and peace that fills the heart of everyone who stands at the Wailing Wall. I used gold foil to emphasize the glow of the Wall itself, as if it were reflecting the light coming from above. This is not just an architectural element, but a symbol of millennial prayers with which people come to her.
The figures of people in the foreground are depicted abstractly so that everyone can see themselves in them or their memories of visiting this holy place. I deliberately avoided details in order to focus on the atmosphere and spiritual content of the picture.
For me, this work is not just a picture, but a way to show Jerusalem as I feel it: a city of light, hope and an endless desire for spirituality. I continue to develop my style, where the depths of the Jewish soul and the energy of the city are revealed through layers of paint and texture.
“Light from the Kotel” is my new attempt to understand how it is possible to express through art the invisible but tangible spiritual ties that unite us with this ancient city.
