Alex Levin is an acclaimed artist who has captured the hearts of many with his unique blend of surrealism and realism. Born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1975, he has since had his works displayed in a range of private, corporate, and institutional collections worldwide.
His Artistic Journey
Levin’s artistic journey started when he immigrated to Israel and served three years in the Israel Army. In 1997, he entered a program in Tel Aviv for industrial and web design, which had a significant impact on his art. He then went on to study under Professor Baruch Elron, Chairman of the Israel Artist Association, for over a decade, where he honed his skills and techniques.
Levin’s works are centered around six main themes, each with a different subject and approach. These themes include: “Tradition of Jewish Heritage,” “Tel Aviv – The Hill of Spring,” “Venice through the Mask’s Eyes,” “Symphony of Rain,” “Roots,” and “Colors of Judaism.”
“Tradition of Jewish Heritage” showcases the Western Wall and its surrounding religious neighborhood in Jerusalem, capturing the ultra-orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim, Jewish attributes, and the people at the Western Wall. In 2007, Levin received the Medal Award for his contribution to Judaic Art from the Knesset.
“Tel Aviv – The Hill of Spring” is an ode to Tel Aviv and its people, building architecture, sea, and beaches, depicting the city on sunny days with clear skies.
“Venice through the Mask’s Eyes” presents the viewer with a unique perspective of Venetian carnival, focusing on the most prominent feature of the carnival – the Mask. In 2002, Levin was awarded a scholarship to the Venice Academy of Art for his “Mask Collection.”
“Symphony of Rain” is a collection of paintings inspired by the music of different composers, each painting completing the other, describing the dream-city of Venice.
“Colors of Judaism” is a series of paintings depicting the ancient sacred prayers of the Jews and the millennia of Jewish history.
