Jerusalem has been home to people for thousands of years. It’s also known as the City of David, which means “citadel” in Hebrew. The city was founded by King David around 1000 BC, and it became an important religious center during the Middle Ages. Today, Jerusalem is home to many different religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism.
The Temple Mount
The Temple Mount is located at the center of Jerusalem. It’s where the first temple stood before being destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC. In fact, the name “Temple Mount” comes from the word “templum,” which means “a sacred place.”
The Western Wall – Kotel
The Western Wall is a remnant of the Second Jewish Temple. It was built during the reign of King Herod (37–4 BC). The wall stretches along the western side of the Temple Mount.
